Understanding and Managing Trauma Triggers
Trauma triggers can make everyday life feel hard. They can cause strong feelings and get in the way of healing and personal growth. At Empowered Mind Therapy Center (EMTC), we help BIPOC women navigate these triggers so they can feel better.
What Are Trauma Triggers?
A trauma trigger is something that reminds you of a scary or painful event from the past.
Triggers can be:
Outside of you, like a sound, smell, place, or person.
Inside of you, like a certain thought, memory, or feeling.
When a person is triggered, their brain and body might react like the bad thing is happening all over again. This can cause strong emotions, stress, or even physical symptoms like a fast heartbeat or feeling shaky.
How to Manage Trauma Triggers
Here are some ways to deal with triggers:
Know Your Triggers
Pay attention to what causes your reactions. This helps you feel more in control.
Learn Coping Skills
Try activities like deep breathing, mindfulness, or grounding exercises to help you feel safe.
Talk to a Therapist
A trained therapist can help you work through your triggers. At EMTC, we use special tools like EMDR and Brainspotting to help your brain heal.
Take Care of Yourself
Rest, eat well, and do things you enjoy. Self-care helps your body and mind stay strong.
How EMTC Can Support You
At EMTC, we focus on helping BIPOC women heal from trauma in a safe and supportive space. Our therapists listen, guide, and teach tools to help you manage triggers. We use brain-based therapy, which helps your brain heal in powerful ways that lead to real change.
