Our Mission

Mental health care that sees the whole person.

We support people whose experiences are often misunderstood or reduced by traditional mental health care. Our work makes room for the mind, body, relationships, culture, identity, and the conditions surrounding someone’s life.

We do not believe healing means learning to function better inside systems that are harming you.
01

Whole-Person Care

Mind, body, culture, relationships, and lived experience belong in the room.

02

Identity in Context

Your responses make more sense when we understand what has shaped them.

03

Care Without Shame

Your identity is never treated as the problem that needs to be fixed.

04

Agency & Choice

Therapy supports you in deciding what you want to carry forward.

Our perspective How we understand mental health

We make room to explore how racism, colonialism, transphobia, cisnormativity, migration, family expectations, ableism, capitalism, and intergenerational trauma can shape our bodies, relationships, identities, and experiences of safety.

Instead of separating distress from its context, we ask what happened, what conditions surrounded it, and what your responses may have helped you survive.

Queer and trans care Your identity is not the problem

Our work can hold dysphoria, embodiment, transition, family and cultural expectations, relationships, discrimination, grief, joy, gender exploration, and belonging.

You should not have to reduce your experience to a diagnosis or make yourself more understandable to the dominant culture before receiving meaningful care.

Our approach What therapy may include

Depending on what you need, therapy may draw from EMDR, Brainspotting, somatic and body-based practices, narrative and relational therapy, parts work, mindfulness, creative practices, and collaboration with other health and wellness providers.

We thoughtfully combine approaches rather than expecting one method to fit every person.

What guides us

The goal is not to tell you who to become.

We help you understand what shaped you, reconnect with your own knowledge and agency, and decide what you want to carry forward.

Our Vision

We envision a mental health system where culturally responsive, relational, body-aware, queer and trans-centered, and liberatory care is not considered an alternative. It is part of the standard.

A system where BIPOC women, trans people, nonbinary and gender-expansive people, and QTBIPOC communities do not have to separate mental health from culture, gender, sexuality, race, disability, family, community, history, or the material conditions of their lives.

We want a model of care that moves beyond asking only:

“What is wrong with you?”

And makes room for different questions:

  1. What happened to you?

  2. What happened around you?

  3. What were you taught you had to become in order to survive?

  4. What did your family and communities have to survive?

  5. What has helped you endure, resist, create, and care for one another?

  6. And who might you become when healing does not require abandoning parts of yourself?

Healing moves outward

Our vision is for healing to ripple outward through individuals, chosen and biological families, relationships, communities, and generations.

Our Values

FROM OUR FOUNDER

A smiling woman with shoulder-length brown hair, wearing a green blazer and a pearl necklace, stands outdoors in front of green foliage.

Vanessa Solis, LCSW

Founder & CEO

Empowered Mind Therapy Center

I founded this practice with a clear vision: to establish a new standard of mental healthcare that honors the lived experience of BIPOC women and QTBIPOC folks—breaking down systemic barriers so our families can build generational cycles of health and resilience.

When BIPOC women & QTBIPOC are at the top of their game, everybody benefits. Our impact is exponential, so our mental health is top priority.

We look forward to see you grow and make an impact you were meant for.

In Community,

Vanessa
